The Department is a Degree-granting department majoring in following specialties:
- Bachelor’s degree students with the specialty 01.03.02 «Applied Mathematics and Informatics»;
- Bachelor’s degree students with the specialty 27.03.04 «Control in Technical Systems»;
- Engineers with the specialty 12.05.01 «Electronic and Optoelectronic Devices and Systems for Special Purposes»;
- Master’s degree students with the specialty 27.04.04 «Control in Technical Systems»;
- Postgraduate students with the specialty 09.06.01 «Informatics and Computer Engineering».
The Department of Automatics and Information Technologies in Control was founded in 1953 and it is one of the oldest departments of our university. The Department is headed by the Candidate of Sciences in Engineering Science, Associate Professor Pavel Vartanovich Babayan. The academic staff of the Department includes 16 people: 2 professors, 13 associate professors and 1 senior teacher. 2 lecturers are doctors of sciences in engineering science and 13 – candidates of sciences in engineering science.
Over the years, the Department trained engineers with the specialties «Automatics and Teleautomatics», «Automated Control Systems», «Mathematical Methods in Economics», «Administration and Informatics in Technical Systems», bachelor’s degree students with the specialties «Applied Mathematics and Informatics» and «Automation and Control». Since 2011 the Department has been training bachelor’s and master’s degree students majoring in «Administration in technical systems» (codes 27.03.04 and 27.04.04), and bachelor’s degree students with specialty 01.03.02 «Applied Mathematics and Informatics» since 2017.
For many years, a powerful scientific school in the field of digital information processing for control purposes was founded at the Department of Automatics and Teleautomatics under the leadership of the head of the Department, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Yuri Mikhailovich Korshunov.
Department’s staff prepared and defended 7 doctoral and more than 40 candidate’s theses. One of the main scientific fields of the Department, headed by Doctor of Sciences in Engineering Science, Professor B.A. Alpatov, is associated with digital image processing in intelligent automatic control systems. We have strong scientific and technological links with the scientific and design center of video and computer technologies of AO (JSC) Ryazan State Instrument-making Enterprise.
The latest developments of the department's research team have found application in the video image processing system «OKHOTNIK» (Hunter), which is produced in various modifications at AO (JSC) Ryazan State Instrument-making Enterpris. From 2008 to 2016 the scientific school under the guidance of Professor B.A. Alpatov was awarded the title of «Leading Scientific School of the Russian Federation» five times.
During majoring lectures, academic and research work, working on their thesis project, students have the opportunity to get acquainted with the most recent scientific achievements of our Department.
Strong academic training in the field of modern IT, combined with systemic knowledge, allows the graduates of our Department to stand out in a competitive labour market. The best graduates have the opportunity to become a part of department’s academic staff and engage in scientific work in the established research laboratory of autonomous information and control systems. Moreover, they can continue their studies in graduate school in order to obtain a candidate's degree. In recent years, 8 of our young graduates have defended their candidate’s theses, and 7 of them were awarded the Grant of the President of the Russian Federation or a special scholarship of the President of the Russian Federation for young scientists.
