Our Department was founded in 1965 as the Department of «Automatic drives». Professor V.P. Milovzorov headed the Department until 1996. The needs of the national economy in personnel were reflected in the specialization of the Department: «Electrical equipment of aircraft» (1972-1976), «Automation and mechanization of information processing and issuance» (1976-1992), «Automation of information and technological processes» (from 1992 till now).

Currently, the department trains students:

• with the specialty 15.05.01 «Design of technological machines and complexes» (specialist’s degree) in full-time and part-time mode of education.Graduate qualification - engineer.
• with bachelor's degree 15.03.04 «Automation of technological processes and production» in full-time and part-time mode of study. Graduate qualification - bachelor.
• with master’s degree 15.04.04 «Automation of technological processes and production» in full-time mode of study. Graduate qualification - master.

This specialty includes exploring of production and technological equipment, organizational and management, research, design and engineering activities of an enterprise and other aspects of the activities of industrial enterprises, firms and various organizations.

As a part of the bachelor’s degree and master’s degree programs, the following aspects are studied: the design and production of an enterprise, the development of design and technological documentation based on CAD, the automation of production processes based on microprocessor technology, the financial and economic activities of an enterprise, econometric analysis and financial management, writing a business plan taking into account the state of the financial and economic environment (inflation, investments, loans, taxes, etc.).

Since 2008, continuous targeted contract training of academic personnel and specialists for enterprises of the military-industrial complex has been conducted on a budgetary basis. The educational process is focused on the acquisition of knowledge by students in the field of automation of both information and technological processes in machine-tool-instrument making.

At the Department there is the Computing center, the Center for technical means of automation, the Laboratory for monitoring and accounting systems and automation of technological processes, the Laboratory for electrical machines and automated electric drives, which are equipped with modern hardware.

Academic personnel and postgraduate students of the Department defended more than 50 candidate and 3 doctoral dissertations, published 8 textbooks and study guides, 6 monographs and more than 200 inventor's certificates and patents.

More than 50 research and development contractual works have been carried out, the results of which have been introduced into the products of the military-industrial complex of Russia.
