The Department of Higher Mathematics was founded in 1952. The main efforts of the department for the entire period of its existence were aimed at improving the educational process.

Currently, there are 20 full-time teachers, including 13 candidates of sciences and 1 doctor of science in physics and mathematics in our Department.

Our academic personnel took into account the specifics of studying mathematics at a technical university in the methodological developments and created balanced educational courses. Over the years of our Department's existence, more than 100 guidance papers have been published. Scientific work at the department is carried out in the following scientific fields:

• qualitative theory of differential equations;
• stability theory;
• theory of generalized functions;
• function approximation problems;
• numerical methods;
• applications of probability theory and mathematical statistics to the study of real systems.

The results of many scientific works have found application in real systems and devices: in an automated installation of an Auger spectrometer; in a device for non-contact measurement of liquid level in tanks; in computer systems for processing information; in the automated system of Rosstat for processing the results of All-Russian Agricultural Census.

Every year our Department holds mathematical Olympiads both among students of our university and universities of Ryazan, and students from other cities. Moreover, our students become winners and awardees of the All-Russian Mathematical Olympiads.
