The faculty was established in 1952. The first name - Faculty of Electronic Instrumentation Engineering. In 1961 it was renamed into the Faculty of Automatics and Teleautomatics.

In recent years, the prospects for the use of automation devices have increased through the use of the latest achievements in science and technology in the field of information technology, especially through the creation of intellectual control devices based on neural networks and fuzzy logic. As the result, in 2001, the faculty received its present name - Faculty of Automatics and Information Technologies in Control.

The Faculty has four degree-granting departments:

The faculty prepares bachelor's degree students with the following specialties:

1. Control in Engineering Systems. Graduates of this specialty solve problems related with automatic control in such industries as space technology, navigation of aircraft, complex technological processes, robotics, trajectory calculations, etc.

2. Biotechnical systems and technologies. Every year, medical institutions are equipped with more and more complex devices of recognizing and treating diseases. Medical cybernetics has become a powerful weapon in the hands of various physicians. Maintenance of this complex technology, its design and production is the main task of engineers in the field of biomedical industry.

3. Instrumentation Engineering. The creation and operation of modern measuring and control devices: from electronic measuring devices to the most complex measuring and computing complexes, used in astronautics, biology, medicine, nuclear power, household. All these areas are areas of application of the knowledge of graduates in this specialty.

4. Information Systems and Technologies. Information systems is a field of science and technology, which includes a set of tools and methods aimed at creating and using automated systems for collecting, transferring, processing, storing and accumulating information, and which uses modern information technologies. Graduates in this area of training can hold the positions of software engineers, electronic engineers and engineers for automated control systems.

5. Automation of Technological Processes and Production. In market environment, an increasing number of enterprises and firms use computer control systems as a means for automated control of processes and production. To implement these tasks, two specializations were opened: "Computer control systems in production and business" and "Electronics and software for computer control systems". Taking into account the acute shortage of specialists in the automation of design work on the basis of new computer technologies, the Department of Information and Technological Processes has begun training such specialists in the "college-university-enterprise" system.

6. Mechatronics and Robotics. Engineers in the field of mechatronics and robotics are focused on the creation of robots and robotic systems based on mechatronic modules (information-sensory, run-time and control). Robots and robotic systems are designed to perform work operations from micro- to macro-dimensions, including replacing a person for heavy, tedious and dangerous work. Mechatronics is characterized by the desire to fully integrate mechanics, electrical machines, power electronics, programmable controllers, microprocessor technology and software.

7. Standardization and Metrology. The development of engineering and technology is inextricably linked with the delivery of product quality based on the principles and methods of standardization and metrology. Standardization in the manufacture of products should solve the following tasks: to determine a full range of measures to ensure the quality of the product at all stages of its production; to provide full compliance of the final product with the customer's requirements; to ensure high productivity of personnel and equipment; to optimize the consumption of raw materials, energy consumption for production; to provide labor safety in the manufacture of products and further operation of products, as well as to optimize the time spent on the production of products.

About a thousand full-time students study at the faculty, among whom more than one hundred and fifty on a commercial basis, about one hundred and eighty graduates receive diplomas annually.

All departments of the faculty have laboratories and computing centers equipped with modern devices, personal computers and the latest versions of software.

The faculty employs four honored workers of science and technology of the Russian Federation, an honored worker of higher education, employees awarded with the badges "Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education", "Inventor of the USSR", "Excellence in Higher Education". Currently, ninety-five percent of the faculty's teachers are doctors and candidates of sciences in engineering science.

At the faculty always there is great attention to the participation of students in the cultural activities and sport activities. Just observe that the facultyis the leader of the University for most sports for over thirty years. Since 1972 to 2001, the faculty team only four timeslost the first places in the annual sports day of the University. The faculty has grown and gain in strength skills such famoussportsman’s as winners of national championship L.Kryuchkov (sambo) and D.Brindeev(athletics), winners andmedalists of Russian championship G.Brychkin, G. Ermakov, A. Stepanov, A. Lebedev, M.Sevastyanov, G.Kuznetsova, K.Musatov. High jumper M. Tsvetkov, the winner of the Russian Youth Championship, who was included in the Olympic team as a candidate, should be especially noted.
