The Department of Information Security trains specialists in the specialties 10.05.01 - Computer Security and 10.05.03 - Information Security of Automated Systems.

Training of specialists in the specialty Computer security has been conducted at the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education «RSREU» since 01.09.1997. FSBEI HE «RSREU» (former Ryazan State Radio Engineering Academy) was one of the first universities in Russia, which began training specialists with the specialty «Information Security», which includes the major «Computer Security». Since 01.09.2009, the training of specialists with the specialty «Computer Security» is carried out only in full-time educational mode for 5.5 years. The qualification in this specialty is a specialist. The educational process in the specialty is organized in accordance with the main educational program of higher professional education developed in the Department. This program became one of the best educational programs of Russia in 2010.

In 2013, there was an enrollment for the specialty 10.05.03 «Information Security of Automated Systems». Training in the specialty «Information Security of Automated Systems» is carried out only in full-time educational mode for 5 years. Qualification in this specialty is an information security specialist.

The Head of the Department of Information Security has been Viktor Nikolaevich Przhegorlinsky since 2009. Viktor Nikolaevich Przhegorlinsky, Candidate of Sciences in Engineering Science, Associate Professor, has been actively involved in educational, methodological, scientific and organizational work in the field of information security since 1995. He has extensive knowledge of computing and information security. Moreover, he published more than 80 articles, including more than 40 articles about information security and 6 study guides. Developed under his guidance, the main educational program for training specialists in the specialty 090102 – «Computer security» was included in the list of the best educational programs of Russia in 2010.

For his remarkable successes in the work he was awarded the badge «Winner of the Socialist Competition of 1978», the Certificate of Honor of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions and the Central Committee of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League. He was awarded the badge «Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation» in 2002. In 2010 he was awarded the badge of distinction FSTEC of Russia «For services in information protection», in 2013 - the medal of the FSTEC of Russia «For strengthening the state information security system», II degree. In 2007, he received a letter of gratitude and a valuable gift from the Governor of the Ryazan Region, was awarded the 70th Anniversary Medal of the Ryazan Region, received a letter of gratitude from the Chairman of the Council of Educational Institutions of Higher Education of the Russian Federation for education in the field of information security, was twice nominated on the Board of Honor of the university. In 2017 V.N. Przhegorlinsky was awarded the 1st degree Medal of the FSTEC of Russia.

Classes are held in classrooms equipped with modern computing and measuring equipment, technical and data cryptographic protection facilities. The total amount of funds invested in the technical support of the Department is more than 7 million rubles.

Currently, the University has all the necessary licenses to conduct research and development work to protect information, including the protection of National Security Information.

A lot of scientific work is being carried out in the Department. For the period from 2000 to 2019, 18 different contract-based and state budgetary works were carried out in the field of information protection and information security in the interests of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Science and Education, the Russian Space Agency, the Government of Ryazan region.

In 2008, the University won the competition for the development of the Information Security Concept of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation. As a result of the successful implementation of this work, the Concept was developed and agreed upon with the FSTEC of Russia.

Since 2009, the university began work related to the creation of secure information systems for distance education. It actively cooperates with the state authorities of Ryazan region. Academic staff of the Department took an active part in the development of regional laws regulating relations in the field of information technologies and information protection, the Regional Grant Program «Electronic Ryazan Region 2008-2010».

The Department of Information Security actively cooperates with the FSTEC of Russia, with a number of leading universities and research institutes of the Russian Ministry of Defense on information security, takes an active part in the work of the Academic Methodological Association on education in the field of information security, including the development of federal state educational standards in the specialties «Computer Security» and «Information Security of Automated Systems».

Students of the Department of Information Security are actively involved in scientific work. For the period from 2003 (the year of the first graduation) to 2019 inclusive, the university has trained more than 300 specialists in the field of information security. Graduates of our Department are in demand in the labor market. They work in TNK-VR-AO (JSC) Ryazan Oil Refining Company, in Prio-Vneshtorgbank, in the Main Department of the Bank of Russia in Ryazan Region, in the Ryazan State Instrument-making Enterprise, in the Ryazanenergo branch of PAO (PJSC) Interregional Distribution Grid Company of Center and Volga Region, in the Department of the Federal Treasury of Ryazan region and other prestigious enterprises and organizations of Ryazan city.

Due to the versatility of the theoretical course of study, graduates can work as specialists in the field of computer technology (for example, application and system programmers, electronic engineers who maintain and repair computers; system administrators, database administrators, computer network administrators) and information security specialists (for example, security administrators of computer systems, security administrators of databases, security administrators of computer networks, employees of departments related to the protection of information, including personal data).
