Currently, the department employs 19 teachers and 6 members of education support staff, including 1 Candidate of Sciences, 1 Associate Professor, 9 Masters of Sports of the USSR and Russia. 1 teacher (A.S. Petrov) was awarded the badge «High Achiever of Physical Culture and Sports».
Department’s main discipline is «Physical culture». This takes into account the specialization in the following sports: track and field, cross-country skiing, football, volleyball, basketball, swimming, sambo, General Physical Preparedness (GPP).
Experienced teachers of our Department train the combined teams of faculties and the whole university in 7 sports. Cup competitions, the University Games and intra-faculty competitions are held annually among the teams of faculties. The combined teams of our University successfully compete in municipal, regional and national competitions, which allowed the University to take one of the leading places among Ryazan universities in sports activities. More than 70 students became Masters of Sports. Two of them - M. Tsvetkov (track and field, 2003) and D. Shelkoplyas (winter polyathlon, 2007) - became Masters of Sports of international class, and E. Lukantsov (rowing and canoeing) - bronze medalist of the Universiade in Kazan in 2013, A. Malinin (kettlebell lifting) - a multiple winner of the youth World and European Championships, O. Gusev (rowing and canoeing) - a two-time winner of the European Championship among juniors, a prize-winner of the World Championship.
The teachers of the Department participate in organization of municipal, regional, Russian and international competitions.

According to the results of the 53rd RGRTU University Games, the winner, who won the most prizes, was the Faculty of Radio Engineering and Telecommunication (Dean of the Faculty - B.I. Filimonov, Deputy for Sports and Mass Work - A.S. Glazkov), the Faculty of Engineering and Economics (Dean E.N. Evdokimova, Deputy for Sports and Mass Work - E.V. Kuznetsova) was the runner-up, Faculty of Automation and Information Technologies in Сontrol (Dean of the Faculty - S.I. Kholopov, Deputy for Sports and Mass Work - L.A. Lykova) placed third.
Graduate student (2013) of Faculty of Automation and Information Technologies in Сontrol, Evgeniy Lukantsov, as part of the Russian national team, took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (rowing, distance 200m).
For the first time, the following students fulfilled the standards for the Degree of Master of Sport:
In 2016, the top 10 athletes of Ryazan region included international Master of Sports in archery Andrey Kharkov, gr. 623 and in canoeing Oleg Gusev, gr. 537.
A great deal of work on the promotion of physical culture and sports at the university and in the organization of cup competitions and RSREU University Games are conducted by Deputy Deans for Sports and Mass Work on a voluntary basis: senior teacher Aleksandr Sergeevich Glazkov (Faculty of Radio Engineering and Telecommunication); senior teacher Zhanna Borisovna Solovieva (Faculty of Electronics); senior teacher Larisa Aleksandrovna Lykova (Faculty of Automation and Information Technologies in); senior teacher Viktor Blokhin (Faculty of Computer Science) and senior teacher Ekaterina Viktorovna Kuznetsova (Faculty of Engineering and Economics).
During the academic year, sportsmen and teams of the university took part in more than 50 competitions of various ranks.

Senior teacher of the Department of Physical Education Zhanna Borisovna Solovieva became the European champion in summer polyathlon among veterans at the European Championship in Crimea in September 2016.
