Scientific Library of the Ryazan State Radio Engineering University is the largest library in Ryazan and Ryazan region. The library is created by the Order of the Ministry of Higher Education on 19.01.1952 No. 124 “On the structure of the Ryazan Radio Engineering Institute”. At that time the collection of the library consisted of several hundreds of textbooks and teaching manuals received from Moscow and Leningrad libraries.
Since 1969 according to the Order of Ministry of Higher and Secondary Professional Education of the USSR No. 521 of July 3, University library is the methodological center for the libraries of Universities and colleges of Ryazan and Ryazan region. The Curriculum Office of library provides close communication between libraries in solving a wide range of issues and problems of practical library activities as well as organizes scientific and practical conferences, seminars, and meetings.
The vast collection of the library has 950 thousand copies, including educational, scientific, reference books, local and foreign journals, normative-technical documentation, reports of scientific research work and experiments and design work, dissertations and extended abstract of dissertations. The library fund is replenished annually.
The fund of rare editions of the library reflects the evolution of Ryazan province history and Russian engineering history of the XVIII-early XX centuries. In 1991 for the automation of library and information processes two computers and automated information library system “MARC” were purchased.
Currently, library has implemented a new generation system “MARC” SQL 1.18. The local library network was set up. Electronic catalogue reflects new additions of the documents since 1989, and it is constantly updated. The process of acquisition of publications, their systematization and accounting were automated. New additions are assigned barcodes. Since 2010, the library created the base of students-readers and has been carrying out automated issuance of sets of educational literature to first and second year students.
Today the library consistently converted into the scientific information library complex of the University. The main objective of the library is to provide students of all forms of education with necessary educational literature as well as to provide all faculty, academic staff and postgraduate students with educational and scientific literature.
Over the last 5 years, the structure of library has been actively developing; the trends for complex service of different user groups and simultaneous enhancements of specialization are clearly identified. In 2000, in the scientific library, along with the specialized humanities hall, a reading room with economic literature was opened. As the result the educational hall also became a specialized – there was opened a reading room with educational and technical literature. In May 2004, electronic information and diploma projects hall was created. The creation of a new reading room is a step forward in the development and improvement of the library, as the library acquires not only publications on traditional paper media, but also books, periodicals, abstract journals in electronic form.
Thus, nowadays, the library has 3 subscription (educational, scientific and fiction literature) and 7 reading halls (scientific, educational- technical, humanities, economic literature, periodicals, science bibliography and electronic media).
