The department of foreign languages was established in 1952 as one of the first department of Ryazan State Radio Engineering University.

The teaching staff includes high-qualified educators and experienced teachers as well as noted translators and interpreters.

Our department is rich in its historical and pedagogical traditions and is distinguished by a wide variety of language courses, adapted to European Standards.

Vocationally-oriented language practice in cooperation with all the faculties of Ryazan State Radio Engineering University as well as theoretical linguistic disciplines are carried out by the department. We fulfill our mission in language studies of future engineers for Russian society and abroad.

Language studies are related not only to the needs of the University but also to the needs of all economic branches that make use of telecommunications, electronics, IT, computer science, automation, management, finance and arts.

Teaching methods and facilities are strictly linked with the latest achievements in linguadidactics and ICT. The educational standards we provide are connected with our own innovative R&D. The department cultivates academic value and traditions of Russian pedagogical science. We are in close cooperation with other universities in Asia and Europe.

Besides the obligatory language studies we provide additional courses: corrective courses (for the University’s students), multilevel courses of spoken language (for everybody), Russian for foreign students.

The department of foreign languages has run “summer school” for our foreign friends. “Summer school” combines language classes with sightseeing of our country. The University’s dormitory is at the disposal of our visitors.

Multilevel short-term courses in Russian are academic studies (from elementary to advanced level) combined with an intense social program.

Elementary level (for beginners)

Course aim: to acquire communicative skills.

Description: Short, lively units cover most frequent Russian words, as well as basic grammar and essential language functions. Interesting, real-life information about the Russian society, its geography, culture etc. Allows students to immediately involve in meaningful interaction.

Intermediate level

Course aim: to develop communicative skills. It is intended for the beginners who have basic knowledge of Russian.

Description: Basic grammar is reviewed, and new grammar items are introduced. Thousands of words concerning everyday life are introduced in lively units and practised in meaningful interaction in class. The course provides extensive practice in listening, reading, speaking and writing both in class and in the language lab. New words and word combinations are introduced in an authentic language context. Language functions and grammar are provided in order to help students acquire communicative skills. Speaking, listening, reading and writing skills are practised using authentic, up-to-date material.

Advanced level

Course aim: to improve fluency and accuracy of the Russian language.

Description: Grammar is revised and practised through a variety of exercises. Vocabulary is offered in texts and video material. Listening, reading, writing and speaking are practised within general and thematic units using authentic and up-to-date material. New words and word combinations are introduced in context and practised in numerous vocabulary exercises. Important grammatical items are revised more thoroughly.

Staff: specialists in Russian as a foreign language teaching with the Certificates of the faculty for the teachers of Russian as a foreign language at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (PFUR)

Period: 2 weeks

Study load: Academic hours: 5 times a week (4 academic hours each lesson).

Groups of 10 - 15 students.
