In 1966, a tourist section worked at the RREI, headed by Natalia Khramova, a real leader and founder of all good tourist traditions. By the spring of 1967, the section became strong enough, and there was a need for its reorganization into a club. And at the regional tourists meeting in the village Seltsy for the first time appeared unknown tour club "Altair". The name of the club was invented by Arkadiy Burmakin. "Altair" is the star of lovers and romantics, which has become the guiding light for RREI tourists. Thousands and thousands of our students, their children and graduates of RREI went through the tourist club. And this is not an exaggeration.

Now, as it was before, the main work of tour club "Altair" is a work with youth. Twice a year (in September and April) the tour club recruits newcomers. To study and strengthen tourist knowledge and skills, classes are held in which "newcomers" learn about the types of hiking outfit and climbing equipment, the rules for organizing hikes and much more. In practical classes, future tourists hone the skills of working with a rope, such as: knotting, abseiling, jumaring, tensioning crossings, etc.

In the winter period, regular mountain tourism trainings are carried out, where the skills of handling ice tools and “working in group” are honed.

Throughout the year, categorical hikes (hiking, mountain, skiing, etc.) are held, and on weekends PVD (weekend hikes) are organized.

Between such serious and not so serious hikes, club teams participate in competitions and organize meetings and tourist events.

In January 2016, the “Star Hike” was revived, passing along the front line together with the Union of Patriots of the Ryazan Region. This event was called "Line of Life". "Altair" has got a huge number of good deeds, which are simply difficult to enumerate.
